Crown Prince of Denmark, Frederick had given a stunning diamond ring to his girlfriend and now the Crown Princess, Mary Donaldson. The couple met at the Slip Inn, a pub in Sydney, when the prince was visiting Australia during the 2000 Summer Olympics. The couple became officially engaged on October 8, 2003. They tied the knot on May 14, 2004 in Copenhagen Cathedral. The Australian and European news media viewed the marriage as a modern “fairytale” romance between a prince and a commoner.
