Trend Alert: Engagement Ring Tattoos?

bod-11

Well, this is one way to commit to each other for the rest of your lives…

Tattoos have never been more popular than they are right now. While the practice of inking up has been around since ancient civilisations, it was always seen as a unique (and somewhat horrifying) art form until the last few decades. Nowadays, tattoos are mainstream and it’s almost a rite of passage for young men and women to get one.

Some people get tattoos merely to express themselves, for the sake of art or even as an act of rebellion. Their tattoos are super cool, obviously, but possibly not all that meaningful. Others pick their tattoos very carefully and make sure they’re symbolic or representative of a special person or event in their lives.

And now, it seems that engagement ring tattoos have become a thing! We must admit, it’s a fantastic choice for the non-traditional couple. If you don’t want to go down the traditional exchanging rings route but still want to mark the occasion and your commitment, why not get tattoos?

A tattoo on your ring finger doesn’t need to be obvious, if you’re concerned about people staring. You can opt for white ink or position it on the inside of your finger rather than the top. You can also get as creative and personal as you want – your finger is essentially a blank canvas and you can make your engagement tattoo more special than an engagement ring could ever be.

Here are just a few ideas to inspire you!

Your other half’s name or initials

We like how this looks on the inside of the ring finger. Remember some tattoo artists will refuse to ink any person’s name since, sadly, some relationships don’t last (and the tattoo will!).

The infinity symbol

Simple, sweet, and just abstract enough to keep people guessing.

A Heart

You can’t get more symbolic than a heart on your ring finger. If the man in your life isn’t too keen on this idea, suggest a key for him and a heart with a keyhole for you.

A Lucky Shamrock

Because you’re so lucky to have found one another, right? This one is also a great idea if one or both of you have Irish roots.

A Celtic Knot

Sticking with the Irish theme, a Celtic knot is also a beautiful choice. The different knot styles symbolise various things like love, eternity, etc. and were used everywhere in Celtic art.

A Symbol of Your Mutual Interest

Did you meet through a love of music? Consider a treble clef. Both Harry Potter fans? Maybe a lightning bolt. See where we’re going with this?

A Diamond

Because your love is unbreakable, because you make each other shine bright like a diamond, and so on…

An Actual Ring

Why not?

An Ampersand

You will be referred to as ‘bride and groom’ or ‘name and name’ forever more, after all.

An Important Date

Like the day you met, the day you got engaged, or your upcoming nuptials…
